New fire extinguishers for homes, vehicles and businesses

We supply new fire extinguishers and other fire safety equipment across the Galle, Matara and Hambantota districts, and help you choose the right type, size and place for each one.

The right extinguisher matches what could catch fire, suits the person who will use it, and hangs where someone can grab it in seconds. Tell us about your place and we'll recommend types, sizes and positions, give you the price before you buy, and mount them for you if you want.

What suits your place

A starting point for common places
PlaceWhat usually fitsWorth knowing
HomeDry powder (ABC) or CO2, plus a fire blanket in the kitchenKeep one near the kitchen door and one near the main switchboard, not in a cupboard. For a burning pan, use a fire blanket, not the extinguisher.
Car, van or three-wheelerA small dry powder (ABC) extinguisherFix it in a bracket within the driver's reach, so it can't roll under the pedals
Shop or officeCO2 near computers, tills and the switchboard; dry powder (ABC) or foam for stock and furniturePowder leaves a fine dust over goods and electronics; CO2 leaves none
Restaurant or kitchenWet chemical for deep fryers and cooking oil, a fire blanket, and CO2 for electrical equipmentNever use water on burning oil
Guest house, boutique villa or hotelWater or foam for rooms and corridors, CO2 near the electrics and any generator, wet chemical and a fire blanket in the kitchenSLTDA asks for a valid Certificate of Fire Protection at registration and every yearly renewal
Factory or workshopFoam or powder for fuels and solvents, CO2 for electrical panels and machinesDepends on what you store and use, so a site visit helps

Every building is different. We confirm types and sizes for your place before you buy.

Choosing the type and size

  1. Start with what could burn

List what is there: wood and paper, fuel and paint, electrical equipment, cooking oil or LP gas. Each type suits some of these and not others, and the wrong one makes a fire worse: water on electrics or burning oil is dangerous.

  2. Match the size to the person

A bigger extinguisher runs for longer but is heavier. Pick a size the people on site can lift and aim; for a large area, two lighter units are often easier than one heavy one.

  3. Check the detail, or ask us

Our guide to fire extinguisher types explains each type and what it must never be used on. Still unsure? Tell us what you need to protect and we'll recommend a type and size, and tell you what we can supply.

How many you need, and where they go

How many depends on the floor area and what could burn. In Colombo, for example, the Municipal Council's trade-licence rule asks for one first-aid fire extinguisher for every 210 m² of floor area. Galle and other councils set their own rules, so ask your local council's fire service what applies to you. A kitchen, generator or fuel store usually needs its own extinguisher as well.

Not sure? We can walk through the place with you and mark where each one should go.

Only tackle a small fire

An extinguisher is for a small fire that has just started. If the fire is spreading or the room is filling with smoke, get everyone out and call the fire brigade on 110.

Other equipment to consider

Keeping them ready

We know of no Sri Lankan law that sets a servicing interval, so firms follow the manufacturer's instructions and international codes such as BS 5306-3 (UK): a quick look at each extinguisher every month and a service by a competent person once a year. Refill any extinguisher straight after use, even a short burst, and check more often near the sea, where salt air is hard on metal. See refilling and inspection and maintenance.

Common questions

What fire extinguisher should I keep in my car?

A small dry powder (ABC) extinguisher suits most cars, vans and three-wheelers, because it works on fuel, electrical and upholstery fires. Fix it in a bracket within the driver's reach, never loose on the floor.

How much does a fire extinguisher cost in Sri Lanka?

It depends on the type and size. A new 2 kg CO2 extinguisher from us is Rs 11,500 (price on 23 October 2026). Online sellers in Sri Lanka listed 2 kg CO2 extinguishers at Rs 11,990 to Rs 13,750 (checked 26 October 2026). For other types and sizes, tell us what you need and we will give you a price.

Can you mount the extinguishers for us?

Yes. Fixing extinguishers in the right places is part of our installation and maintenance service. Ask us to price it together with the extinguishers.

Will buying extinguishers get me a fire certificate?

Not on its own. Fire certificates are issued by the local authority fire service (or the UDA), not by suppliers. We help you get ready: the right equipment in the right places, serviced, and staff who know how to use it.
